Ticket Sales May Tell Story

Since the announcement was made almost four years ago that the 2010 Alltech FEI World Equestrian Games would be held at the Kentucky Horse Park in Lexington, the question has lingered: How many people from around the globe will attend?

At noon Friday — one year before the games begin — organizers start to get that answer as roughly 600,000 reserved seats go on sale to the public for the world championships in eight equestrian sports that will be at the park between Sept. 25 and Oct. 10, 2010.

When the games were announced and budgets were drafted for the $76.4million event, it wasn’t known that the economy would be in — or emerging from — a recession.

Jamie Link, chief executive of the World Games 2010 Foundation, the local planning committee, said organizers believe that ticket sales will be strong despite the economic climate and that the games can finish with a surplus. Ticket sales are expected to generate $30 million…
