Restoring The “Grand”
Restoring The “Grand”
Garrard County is hoping to restore its own economy by breathing new life into an historic building.
The county is working to restore the Grand Theatre, a 1920′s theater in Lancaster, with $1.3 million in government money and $150,000 more in private donations. The project has been years in the making.
Now, with money in place to begin construction, local leaders hope to make the once magnification venue a place that will soon host music concerts, school activities and plays.
“The goal is to immediately get this open for live performances,” said John Wilson, Garrard County judge executive.
Officials hope to have the Grand Theatre up and running by the 2010 World Equestrian Games.
