Lucinda Fredericks Takes Rolex

LEXINGTON, Ky. — In winning the Rolex Kentucky Three-Day Event yesterday, Australia’s Lucinda Fredericks took home $80,000 in prize money, a hefty trophy and a shining new wristwatch.

She also claimed some bragging rights at home.

In riding Headley Britannia to the Rolex title — she clinched it in yesterday’s jump test — Fredericks matched her husband, Clayton Fredericks, the 2007 champion.

“At one stage in the house, I was the only one who’d been to Rolex and won,” Clayton Fredericks said. “That’s straight out the window now.”

Lucinda Fredericks and Headley Britannia tossed it out with a second-place finish in the dressage test and a first-place run in Saturday’s cross-country test, then sealed it yesterday in the jump test….

….t helps, Fredericks said, that her husband is an accomplished rider who knows her horse. The two worked together to devise a plan for yesterday’s jump test, she said, and both intend to return to Lexington for the Games in 2010…..
