Asbury College Prepares to get Invovled with 2010 Equestrian Games

Asbury’s Equestrian students are preparing to get involved with the World Equestrian Games that will be held in the United States for the first time in September 2010 at the Kentucky Horse Park.

The World Equestrian Games are held every four years and consist of eight equestrian sports: jumping, dressage, eventing, driving, endurance, reining, vaulting and para dressage.

According to the official Web site of the World Equestrian Games, www.feigames2010.org, more than 1,000 participants representing 50 countries are expected to compete.

Any time an event of this magnitude is put on, volunteers are indispensable.  Since the 2010 Games are being held so close to Asbury, it is a great opportunity for Asbury students, especially those in the equestrian program, to get involved.  Harold Rainwater, head of the Asbury Equestrian Program, explained the main ways that Asbury will be helping out. Asbury is already signed up to volunteer, doing everything from handing out programs to helping park cars and anything else that needs to be done.

Asbury has also applied to be considered for a demonstration spot. Between the events, there will be all kinds of demonstrations put on by different schools and organizations. According to Rainwater, he hopes to do a demonstration identical to the one that the equestrian program did at Keeneland a few months ago.
