Bill Long Hopes to Be Short-Listed for 2010 World Equestrian Games

Bill Long is one of the top four-in-hand drivers in the world. So it comes as no surprise that Long won the team division at the mini-Combined Driving Event held at the Carolina Horse Park Feb. 8.

Long, who has competed in six World Equestrian Games in the sport of Combined Driving, has not had a team to drive in the last few years. Three months ago, Jack Wetzel of Aiken, S.C., turned over the lines of his coaching team to Bill in order to compete in the sport of combined driving. Long hopes to be one of nine teams to qualify and one of three American teams selected to compete in the 2010 World Equestrian Games to be held in Lexington, Ky., the first time the World Equestrian Games will be held in the United States.

“There is a big difference between coaching and combined driving,” says Long. “We have a lot of work to do in Dressage.”…
