Digging Up Bones At Kentucky Horse Park

This story provided by our friend Jackie at the Regarding Horses Blog.

Preparations for the 2010 World Equestrian Games unearthed something from the past at the Kentucky Horse Park yesterday morning: human bones!

As excavators were digging for the new outdoor arena, they unexpectedly came across a human skull and a leg bone. They immediately called authorities, who determined that the bones came from two different people. They found a few more bones as well as nails and metal handles that are most likely from a wooden coffin. They believe this was probably a family burial plot of some sort; no foul play involved.

Definitely not the kind of thing you want to come across doing excavation. And it’s going to hold up construction progress on the arena for at least a few days as authorities examine the area. This is kinda funny, and I’m sure it’s only going to be a minor hiccup in the long run for the World Equestrian Games.

Hey, this could make a super cool plot for one of those crime shows like CSI – or Bones! I bet they’ve never used a location like the Kentucky Horse Park before. They could get some great footage, that’s for sure.
