Hawke’s Bay has attracted a record number of entries for the opening round of the Bomac World Cup (NZ series) on Friday.
But World Cup course designer Kevin Hansen says there’s more to the series than just kudos and the chance to represent New Zealand at the final in Las Vegas.
“This is New Zealand’s highest ranking series that links us to the world,” says Hansen. “World Cup courses are of an international standard and the series offers our riders the one chance in a year to compete with the rest of the world.”
The top four riders from the series will form the New Zealand team for the tri nations competition which starts at the Kelt Capital Horse of the Year Show in Hastings in March, before moving to South Africa and Japan in April.
“Now more than ever, New Zealand needs to perform very well – Kentucky (where the World Equestrian Games are being held in 2010) is only two years away and we need to be there with the best performed riders and horses.”
Hansen says at least half the team that represents New Zealand in Kentucky should be New Zealand based combinations….
