Chester Weber’s Champion Rolex W Donates to the Horsetails 2010 Fundraiser

Press Release

Ocala, FL- During the 2010 Alltech FEI World Equestrian Games, the Lexington Philharmonic will host their 5th major fundraiser, which has featured the World’s Greatest Thoroughbreds in the past. This year they are hosting a major project, Horsetails 2010, and Silver Medalist, Chester Weber was asked to contribute in a very different way.

The tail hairs of Rolex W, one of his Champion Team of Dutch Warmbloods, is going to be used in a three-dimensional shadow box containing a miniature violin accompanied by its miniature horsehair bow. The small horsehair bow will be made out of the tail hairs of Rolex W, who’s portrait will be painted on the violin.

Forty renowned equine artists have donated their time and skill to create these unique shadow boxes featuring a celebrated equine champion on a specially cut miniature violin. At Hillcroft Farm’s October 1st cocktail party, Weber was asked to donate some of Rolex W’s tail hairs to this unique and one-of-a-kind piece of artwork, which supports the Philharmonic’s Partners in Education. On Sunday Weber personally donated the tail hair from Rolex W at a special reception held during the Lexington Combined Driving Classic held at The Kentucky Horse Park.

The Partners in Education Program was created to expand collaborations with public and private schools and provide access to educational concerts for students; to offer young people the opportunity to develop a lifelong relationship with music and the orchestra; and to help students, teachers, and musicians collaborate on opportunities for artistic educational partnerships and participation both within and outside normal school hours.

Participants can easily recognize the singular contribution these horses make to the world of music as they donate some “tail hairs” to make up the bowstrings for the tiny violins they accompany nestled in an attractive shadow box. Horses have made the distinct contribution of their tail hair to be used for bowstrings for hundreds of years.

These artistic shadow boxes, demonstrating the ‘harmony’ between visual art and the horse will be displayed and offered for sale during the 2010 Alltech FEI World Equestrian Games as a memento to the fine record each horse has established in his particular discipline. Some of the tail hairs secured to date will come from champions Storm Cat, Cigar, Curlin, Rags to Riches, Unbridled Song, Mr. Nicandual (reining champion) Giants Causeway and Connaught. This highly regarded collection will be on exhibition prior to the World Equestrian Games at The Kentucky Horse Park, so participating players will have a chance to pick out their favorite.
