Ward still collecting plaudits
BREWSTER – McLain Ward hasn’t become a two-time Olympic gold medalist in equestrian team show jumping by taking a break and reflecting on his accomplishments.
Ward was traveling to another event just two days after coming back from Hong Kong, where he won gold in his second straight Olympics, and though he was home at Castle Hill Farms in Brewster this week, he’s about to leave again for four straight weeks of competition.
“Certainly the satisfaction level is very high, but it’s also what have you done for me lately?” Ward said. “We have to see what the next goal on the list is.”
The next major step for the 32-year-old Ward and Sapphire, a 13-year-old Belgian Warmblood mare, is the Indoor World Championships is Las Vegas in April. Further down the road is the World Equestrian Games in Kentucky in 2010….
